003_Kuonji_Makoto

Decided to finish the full set before I think about what else I want to keep drawing. The side characters are a possibility. But I have a lot of other projects going on, so I might not get to them…!

Script: Aikawa Shou.
Well, we’re off Yamaguchi Ryouta’s training wheels, which I honestly expected as soon as I saw the preview after ep 2. Like Savers, and honestly a lot of lot running anime, there will be many episodes left to other people to fill in the majority of the work. One person can only do so much. In Savers, Yamaguchi did episodes 1-2, 8, 12-13, 17, 20, 24, 26, 30, 35, 40, 46-48.

Hand off the large summary of plot points that need to happen in the episode and leave it to another person to fill in the blanks, and that’s what ep 3 fulfills. Tomoro finally calling Gekkomon by his name instead of tokage/lizard. Seeing bits into his past and his circumstances. His dual colored hair even when he was in elementary school lol. The animation’s also already gone kinda out of kilter, but that’s sasuga Toei lollll. It’ll come back to amazing when the right time comes. >_>

Anyway, I do hope we’ll eventually get more into the other members of Glowing Dawn, particularly. No doubt some attention-deficient kiddo out there will complain that taking any extra episodes to flesh out their characters will feel like filler to them and they want to get to Shangri-La already blahblahblah, comparing it to how they thought the first 12 eps of Savers had “fillers”. But the main thing I liked about those 12 eps was getting to see aspects of the main characters and learning bits about them. Hayase and Tohma… Hanamura Neon and Yoshino… Koushirou and Masaru… These character-of-the-episode bits really bring out more of the world, more of the characters. Once the plot rolls in, it gets harder to go deeper into these. Savers still manages to do it with various other Digimon interventions that happen along the way (MetalPhantomon, Mammothmon, RhodoKnightmon, etc), and I’m fairly certain Beatbreak will do similar things.

I like this bit in the opening where Reina flicks her hair over her shoulder after the spray paint scene.

But yeah, I don’t like leaving Reina and Makoto to the token girl and little boy roles of the team, I need to know more…! Wolvermon’s “Tomboy Blaze” had me kinda cringe tbh lol. Surely there will be more. XD; Old man Yoshimura’s note of “Is he your new boyfriend, Reina?” has me both cringe and curious as well. Pffft

I’m not sure what it would take for me to unsee Laphicet whenever Makoto is on screen and I’m really quite okay with it in the meantime. Embodiment of an angel… :’D

One particular thing that’s separating beatbreak from savers to me is the entity of digimon in itself… They flat out say they’re AI in beatbreak. In Savers, they’re practically just a parallel entity with various biological inclinations. It’s why I end up exploring the ins and outs of how the digital world works in Seesaw/Coming Home.

It doesn’t seem like a Digital World exists in Beatbreak (yet), and Mirror World is being used as a convenient interface for these saponushi/Owners to duke it out with no limits.
